Many private clinics have been treating pigment lesions using various laser instrument without histopathologic diagnosis. However, the use of laser therapy in the treatment of pigment lesions is a controversial issue as it can delay exact diagnosis and may negatively impact prognosis. Herein, we report a case of recurrent nevus which has been treated with numerous laser ablative therapy without biopsy. A 44-yeat-old woman presented with a 1.5 cm-sized, brownish pigmented patch on the left cheek, which has been treated with about 10 times of laser therapies at several private clinics for 10 years. But whenever the lesion was treated with laser therapy, the pigmented lesion had reappeared and increased in size. Dermoscopic findings showed asymmetric pigmented globules and dots with central scar-like area. The histopathologic findings showed proliferation of atypical rnelanocytes in the epidermis and fibrosis in the underlying dermis. We diagnosed the case with dysplastic nevus with severe atypia and excised the lesion completely.
