본 연구에서는 레이스가 화예와 어울리며 작가가 표현하고자 하는 바가 잘 표현될 수 있는 재료라는 것을 발견하게 되어 레이스를 활용하여 화예 작품을 창작하였다. 전통적 모티브는 여성스러움과 고급스러움으로 나눌 수 있다. 여성스러움을 형상적 모티브로 이용, 장식하거나 구조의 대치를 사용하는 모티브를 여성스러움의 모티브로 분류하였다. 또한 품격을 상징하고 제조의 고도화를 드러내거나 금속과의 결합과 대치를 사용하여 고급스러움을 나타내는 경향을 발견할 수 있었는데 이를 고급스러움의 모티브로 분류하였다. 현대적 의미로 보았을 때 깨끗함과 부드러움을 드러내거나 또한 우아함, 가려짐, 은은함을 드러내는 경우, 정성을 담아 사용하는 방법을 통하여 정서적 모티브를 분류하였다. 또한 천상의 분위기를 드러내거나 상상의 여지를 주거나 빛의 투과와 그림자를 사용하여 상상적 모티브를 분류하였다. 이를 바탕으로 세 가지 모티브를 창작에 적용하여 ``Marchen Story``를 주제로 ``Beautiful Girl``, ``Picnic``, ``Rain``, ``Sky``, ``Swings``의 총 다섯 가지 화예 작품을 구현하였다. 본 작품 연구는 이러한 흐름 속에서 식물재료 중심의 화예 작품 경향에서 벗어나 레이스라고 하는 새로운 모티브이자 재료를 도입하여 화예에 있어 새로운 창작을 시도하고자 한 점에서 그 의의가 있다고 보겠다.

This fabric was selected as the main material here as it is one of the fittest materials that match floral art well and represent the artist`s intentions in a creative way. In the works, the traditional motif is divided into womanliness and sophistication. Expressing womanliness as a figurative motif for decoration and using counterposed structure is categorized as womanliness. This delicate fabric demonstrates sophistication as it symbolizes dignity, represents an advanced form of manufacturing and shows sophistication married and counterposed with metal. In a contemporary sense, emotional motif is expressed by using the elegant fabric with great care to show cleanliness, tenderness or grace, faintness and subtleness. As an imaginative motif is represented by creating a celestial atmosphere, leaving room for imagination or using penetration of light and shadows. Based on these, the aforementioned three motives have been applied to create five floral art works: Beautiful girl, Picnic, Rain, Sky and Swings under the theme of Marchen Story. This art activity bears significance in that it makes an attempt for a whole new creation of floral art works by adopting lace, an unusual form of material and motif going beyond the trend of mainly using plant materials for floral art.
