21세기 아프리카는 인적자원과 자원이 풍부한 곳으로 전 세계의 관심이 집중되는 곳이다. 특히 북아프리카의 모리타니아는 사하라 사막과 함께 서부아프리카로 연결되는 통로에 있어 서구열강들의 주목을 받는 곳이다. 모리타니아이슬람공화국은 20세기 초에 프랑스 식민 지배를 받아 독립한 국가로 공용어는 불어와 아랍어를 사용한다. 종교는 이슬람이 절대적인 곳으로 기독교 인구는 매우 미미한 곳이다. 모리타니아는 독립이후 쿠데타가 자주 발생하여 정치적.경제적.사회적으로 안정되어 있지 않은 곳일 뿐 아니라 세계 최하위 빈민국이다. 그러나 최근 들어 서부아프리카 말리와 기니에서 발생하는 내전을 피해 몰려오는 난민들로 골치를 아픈 곳이 되었다. 거기다가 세네갈과 기니비사우에서 오는 이주민들로 인해 문화의 다양성을 갖고 있는 곳이다. 모리타니아의 문화의 다양성은 이슬람교라는 종교적 특성에 의해 감추어진 듯한 느낌이 들지만 내면적으로는 민간신앙 토대위에 각 부족별 문화가 숨 쉬는 곳이다.1 모리타니아의 문화적 다양성 가운데 악명 높은 노예제도와 이혼율 100%, 소녀사육과 여성할례가 있다. 이러한 문화적 다양성을 가진 국가에 대한 복음선교는 치밀한 계획을 가질 때만이 가능성이 있다. 그것은 일대일 전도와 집중적인 멘토, 다중적 접근방법보다는 개인별 접근을 통한 복음전도의 기회를 삼는 것이 효율적이다.
21st century Africa is a place drawn focused interest around the world as a rich place with human resources and natural resources. Especially in North Africa, Mauritania is a place in the passage that links to West Africa with the Sahara Desert and receives the attention of Western powers. Islamic Republic of Mauritania has received a French colonial rule in the early 20th century and the official language is French and Arabic as an independent country. Christian population is very small as Islam is absolute. After independence Mauritania political coups have occurred frequently and political economic and social situation is not stable as well as one of the poorest countries. Recently, however, Mauritania has become a sore spot troubled by the influx of refugees escaping from the civil war that occurred in Mali and Guinea in West Africa. Additionally, it has become a place that has been experiencing a diversity of cultures due to the immigrants coming from Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. The diversity of the culture of Mauritania is presumably concealed by a religious characteristic of Islam but it is where various ethnic cultures situated over the foundation of folk religion within the inner place exist. The infamous slavery, 100% divorce rate, breeding girls and female circumcision are included in the cultural diversity of Mauritania. The Mission in the country with the cultural diversity will be potentially possible with only careful planning. It is better to have a chance for one-on-one evangelism and intensive mentoring, evangelism through personal approach rather than multiple approaches.
