본 연구는 백워드 설계모형을 초등학교 체육교과 여가활동 단원에 적용함으로써 초등학교 체육학습의 백워드 설계모형 적용 가능성 및 체육교과 교수학습지도방법의 개선방안을 모색하여 체육학습 지도에 도움이 되는 기초자료를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 서울시 소재 K초등학교 6학년 2개 학급 50명을 대상으로 A학급은 백워드 설계모형을 적용하며 B학급은 일반적인 학습모형을 적용하여 백워드 설계모형의 체육학습 적용 전·후와 두 집단간 학습자의 학업성취도(심동적, 인지적, 정의적 영역) 차이를 검증한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 여가활동의 자연환경과 여가 단원에서 학업성취도의 차이를 검증한 결과 백워드 설계모형의 체육학습 적용 전·후와 두 집단간 학습자의 학업성취도(심동적, 인지적, 정의적 영역)에서는 실험집단과 비교집단간의 학업성취도는 모든 영역에서 유의한 차이가 있었다.

This study is aimed at providing basic data which could be helpful to physical education through inquiry into the possibility of application of the backward design to physical education of an elementary school by applying the backward design model to the leisure activity Units of the physical education subject of an elementary school, and the model improvement plan for teaching & learning guidance methods of the physical education subject. In order to achieve such a purpose, this study, targeting 50 sixth graders for 2 classes of K Elementary School in Seoul, verified the difference between before/after the application of the backward design model to the physical education classes, and the difference in a learner`s academic achievement(psychomotor, cognitive, affective domains) between the two groups(A & B) by applying the backward design model to A class, and applying the general learning model to B class; as a result, this study obtained the conclusion as follows: a result of verifying the difference in academic achievement in the Unit of Natural Environment and Leisure of leisure activity, it was found that there was a significant difference between before/after the application of the backward design model to physical education classes, and in all domains of learners` academic achievement(psychomotor, cognitive, affective domains) between the experimental group and comparison group.
