일반적으로 과학기술의 진보가 암시하는 것은 인간의 복지와 편익(便益)이 되었다. 인간신체의 진화는 이러한 기술진보의 속도감에 비해 자각할 수 없을 만큼 느리게 진행되지만 과학기술은 매 순간 놀라운 속도로 인간에게 새로운 세계를 열어준다. 새로운 세계로의 경험은 인간을 몸의 태생적 한계를 극복하고자 하는 욕망에 빠지게 했으며 그 욕망으로부터 ‘사이보그(cyborg)’나 로봇과 같은 인간을 닮되 인간의 능력을 능가하는 ‘완전한’ 존재의 생산이 시작되었다. 이러한 욕망과 기술진보가 어우러져 배태(胚胎)한 안드로이드 로봇(AndroidRobert) ‘에버(EveR)’의 개발을 사이아트의 한 맥락으로 보고 필자는 여기에서 연구팀과 언론이 말하는 한국의 미의식 반영에 대해 문제를 제기한다. 사실 ‘한국적’이라는 수식어는 한류(韓流)의 번성과 함께 우리가 일상에서 빈번히 마주치는 것이다. 우리가 별 의문 없이 이러한 문구가 지칭하는 한국의 전형을 받아들이지만 일상에서 흔하게 마주한다고 하여, 또 그것이 일반적으로 통용되기 때문에 어떠한 주장이 사실이 될 수는 없는 것이다. 필자는 ‘한국형’이라는 표현사용의 타당성을 연구하기 위해 ‘한국적 미인’에 관한연구를 안드로이드 로봇의 외모구성에 응용하여 분석했다. 우선 본고에서는 ‘한국적’이라는 용어의 의미를 한국문화 원형(原形)으로 상정하고 전통적 한국미인의 의미를 살펴보았다. 아울러 현재 변화하는 한국인의 얼굴과 체형에 대한 데이터를 밝히면서, 미인에 대한 전통적 생각과 현재의 한 차이점으로 ‘동안(童顔)’을 중점적으로 다루었다. 분석한 바에서 필자는 안드로이드 로봇 개발자와 언론이 한국적 미인으로 소개한 로봇이 엄밀한 의미에서 현재 상업문화가 만들어낸 신화일 뿐이라 판단된다. 이 로봇의 외형은 오늘의 상업주의가 선전하는 서구화된 외모의 뷰티 트랜드이며, 우리는 이를 현재 한국의 미인으로 곡해(曲解)하고 있는 실정이다. 각 분야를 대표하는 이들이 어떤 것을 한국적인 것으로 주장하면 일반인들은 수동적으로 이를 받아들이기 때문에 그 주장에는 책임이 따라야 할 것이다. 무엇보다 한국적인 것을 지키고 유지하는 일은 다음 세대를 위해 오늘의 세대가 책임져야할 일이기에 향후 더 깊이 있는 평가와 연구가 필요 할 것이다.
In generally the advance in science technology implies human welfare and benefits. Although the evolution of the human body, compared to fast-speed of science technology development, is too slow to be recognized, the science technology rapidly opens up to human beings a new world. The experiences of new world have made us fall in the desire to attempt to overcome the limits of human body. From the desire, a complete being, cyborg or robot, which resembles but surpasses human kind, has been produced. I regard Android Robert, ‘EveR’ as one of streams of SciArt and when Korean science team, which developed ‘EveR’ series, announced the series represent Korean aesthetic sensibilities, I give a skeptical response to it which is the starting point of this paper. In fact we are often exposed to the modifier of ‘Korean style’ due to the prosperity of Korean Wave. Even though we have accepted what it refers to without any questions and because the idea becomes common sense, the claim is not able to become the truth. In order to confirm the validity of expression, ``Korean Style``, I have applied the studies of traditional types of beautiful woman images to appearance composition of ``EveR`` series. Above all, I presume the meaning of ``Korean Style`` stemmed from Korean cultural prototype. I, in additionally, study the types of Korean beautiful woman, present state of body transformation, and ``baby face`` trend in Korea. With these analyses, I insist that Korean android robot, EveR, which introduced as Korean archetype of the beauty by science development team and the media, is the myth that the current commercial culture has manipulated. The appearance of robot is one of beauty trends which is westernized and advertised by beauty industry in Korea. In these days we all accept it as Korean genuine beauty. Thus when the representatives from all walks of life claim Korean style, they should have responsibility what they have introduced to the public, because people believe it and make it the truth. The duty this generation should do is to define and preserve what Korean style is for the next generations.
