The focus of this study is to examine how soviet values were expressed in dance and how the aspirations of artists were externalized on stage in Russia where the revolutionary awareness of Marxism was propagated. A representative work, 『The Bolt』 performed by the Bolshoi Ballet, represents the meaning and significance of collective labor with geometrical figures and unified movements. Its costumes and directing defy the bourgeoisie taste and emphasize the proletariat. The work stresses utopia and reflects an image of revolution which interprets the development and change towards utopia as positive.
