중고등학교에서 활발한 토론수업을 할 수 있는 교사를 양성하기 위하여 생물 교재 실험 연구를 시도하였다. 생물 교재 실험 내용은 중고등학교 생물교과서에 수록된 실험 중에서 선정하였다. 실험수업 지도안은 토의에 중점을 두어 다양한 토론을 할 수 있도록 실험 계획을 하였다. 처음 수업을 시작했을 때에는 수업 진행자가 실험 결과를 해석하고 토론하는 방법에서 부족한 점이 많았다. 이것은 우리나라의 교육이 주로 주입식으로 이루어져 왔기 때문이며 학생들 스스로 생각해 내고 발표할 수 있는 능력과 자세가 되어 있지 않았다. 그러나 수업이 진행되면서 토론이란 무엇이며, 어떻게 해야 하는 것인지를 파악하게 되었다. 점차 토론 계획을 다양하게 세우게 되었고 효율적인 토론을 진행할 수 있게 되었다. 특히 수업평가 시간을 통하여 문제를 찾아내고 분석하여 판단하는 능력을 얻으므로서 자기 의견을 체계화하여 발표하는 능력과 남의 의견을 비판하고 수용하는 자세를 배우게 되었다. 한 학기 수업으로는 실로 놀라운 변화였다. 따라서 생물 실험 교재 연구는 중·고등학교에서 토론수업을 적절하게 진행할 수 있는 교사 양성교육에 효과적인 교과목이라고 판단되어 보고한다.

To bring up capable middle and high school teachers who can lead classes with emphasis on discussion among students rather than on one way lectures from an instructor, we started the study of biological experiment. All experiments were selected from those illustrated in the middle and high school biology textbooks. In the experiment report, emphasis was put on the discussions and it was arranged so that these could arise lots of discussion among the participants. At first, the conductors of the class simulation did not have the right concepts of the discussion and naturally were often misled. It was because the Korean education system has emphasized on cramming knowledge into the heads rather than on the individual and independent thinking. The students did not have the capability to think creatively and make presentations for themselves. However, as the course proceeds, they came to realize and grasp the concept of true discussions and found out how to make discussion. They made various plans for discussions and accordingly efficient discussions were made possible. Especially through the evaluating sessions, the students came to have the capability to locate, analyse and solve problems. They also got the ability to construct and present their own points of view and opinions and to comment and accept others` opinions. It was a eye-catching development for such a short time as one semester. Accordingly, the study of middle and high school biology experiment in college was thought at the teaching process that bring up capable middle and high school teachers for the efficient discussions.
