제6차 교육과정에 따른 중학교 과학 교과서 생물단원의 STS 내용 분석
An Analysis of STS Material in Biology Chapters of Middle School Science Textbooks

Science-Technology-Society (STS) has been concerned with a reform in science education as a new direction and goal far science education. The goal of STS education is to develop individuals who understand how science, technology and society interrelate and who are able to use this knowledge in everyday decision making. In Korea, STS was introduced in the Fifth Curriculum and it was more emphasized in the Sixth Curriculum The major purpose of this study was to examine biology chapters of eight middle school science textbooks to analyze STS materials. The results of this study are as follows : 1. In biology chapters of eight science textbook, 7.3% of the total page space in average was devoted to STS materials. 2. 20.3% of STS material was included in. chapter `Nature and fur Lives`, 9.5% in `Structures and Functions of Organism`, 2.9% in `Inheritance and Evolution`, and 1.1% in `Surrounding Organisms`. 3. STS materials are analyzed by STS topics by Piel (1981). 29.6% of STS materials were the topics on effects of technological developments, 23.7% on environmental quality and utilization of natural resources, 19.9% on human engineering, 16.4% on population, 7.1% on sociology of science, and 3.3% on energy, and there was no topic on apiece research and national defense. 4. STS materials were analyzed by SATIS student activities. Most of the activities were structured discussions and data analysis, and there was rm simulation and research design.
