Comparison on the Kind of Plants Appeared in the Current and Former Science Textbook of the Middle School

The Contents and the kinds of plants covered in the 5th(former) and the 6th(current) edition of the Korean puddle school science textbooks were analyzed and compared. The study was conducted focusing on the biology area. The following results were obtained. 1. Partial modification and supplement were observed in current textbooks, especially the number of inquiry was obviously increased. 2. Eighty seven kinds of plants appeared 460 times in the current version, While 88 kinds appeared 431 times in the former ones. 3. Among 87 kinds of plants in the current edition; twenty one kinds were newly appeared, 22 were deleted, and 66 kinds were covered in both editions. 4. It is suggested that taxonomical hierachy should be described more clearly to avoid the confusion of the species names when the new version is written.
