기독교대학과 선교는 밀접한 관계가 있다. 기독교대학은 일반 대학과 마찬가지로 대학의 3대 사명인 교육, 연구, 봉사를 추구하는 학문공동체로서, 기독교교육을 통하여 교회와 국가와 인류사회에 공헌할 인재들을 양성하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 동시에 기독교대학은 학문 활동을 통하여 그리스도의 복음을 증거하는 증인 공동체로서 선교적 사명을 가지고 있다. 통전적 선교란 복음전도와 사회참여를 모두 포함하는 포괄적 의미의 선교개념이다. 이러한 통전적 선교의 개념은 1974년 스위스의 로잔에서 모인 세계복음화 국제대회의 로잔언약을 계기로 명확하게 이루어졌으며, 통전적 선교의 성경적 근거는 예수 그리스도의 사역과 명령에서 찾을 수 있다. 따라서 기독교대학의 선교는 이러한 통전적 선교의 관점에서 수행되어야 한다. 기독교수는 기독교대학이 정체성을 구현하며 통전적 선교를 감당함에 있어서 가장 핵심적인 인적 요소이다. 기독교수는 통전적 선교명령에 대한 소명을 받은 자들이다. 성경에 나타난 통전적 선교명령은 문화명령(창 1:28)과 대위임령(마 28:1820) 과 대강령(마 22:3740) 이다. 세명령은 각각 독립적이면서 도상호보완적인 관계이며, 통전적 선교 명령 안에서 통합되어 있다. 기독교수는 선교명령의 수행자로서의 역할에 최선을 다해야 한다. 기독교수는 문화명령의 수행자로서 교육과 연구활동을 해야한다. 기독교수는 교육 활동을 통하여 진리를 가르칠 뿐만 아니라 모범을 보여야하고 학생들의 인격형성에도 힘써야 한다. 기독교수는 연구 활동을 통하여 하나님의 진리를 드러내고 인류사회에 봉사할 뿐만 아니라 궁극적으로 하나님께 영광을 돌려야 한다. 기독교수는 대위임령의 수행자로서 학원선교사의 사명을 감당해야 한다. 기독교수는 대강령의 수행자로서 봉사 활동을 통하여 이웃 사랑과 섬김에 힘써야 한다.

Christian universities and mission are closely related to each other. Like secular universities and colleges, Christian universities and colleges are academic communities that seek after the three missions of education, research and service, aiming at cultivating students for the purpose of contributing to church, nations, and the whole world. At the same time, Christian universities and colleges are entrusted with a mission of doing missions as a community of witness through research activities. The concept of holistic mission has a comprehensive meaning including both evangelism and social responsibility. This concept of holistic mission has been clearly defined by the Lausanne Covenant in 1974 in the International Congress on World Evangelism at Lausanne in Switzerland. The biblical basis of holistic mission is found in the works and commands of Jesus Christ. Therefore the Christian mission should be performed in the viewpoint of this holistic mission. Christian professors are the most crucial resource in carrying out the holistic mission, realizing the identity of Christian universities and colleges. Christian professors are called to fulfill the holistic mission callings. In accordance with the Scripture, the Cultural Mandate (Gen. 1:28), the Great Commission (Matt. 28:1820), and the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:3740) address the Christian holistic mission. These three are independent and complementary, combined in the holistic missional mandate. Christian professors should do their best in playing the roles of carrying out the missional mandate. They should do research and educate as carriers of the cultural mandate. They should model and exert themselves in the developing of characters of students as well as teach the truth. They should not only reveal the truth of God and serve human society but also glorify God through research activities. They should, as great commissioners, devote themselves to campus mission. They should love and serve their neighbors as great commandment carriers through voluntary service and activity as well.
