The purpose of this paper is to propose three issues that should be considered in developing teaching methods for French-learners in Korea. To begin with, we first examine the current research trend which focuses on contextualized language learning and teaching, learner-centered education, and eclecticism. Next, we study Korea’s educational culture and the characteristics of Korean learners. And finally, we discuss the three issues in order to formulate a new framework of French education in Korea: 1) Why do Korean learners wish to learn French? 2) What kind of language education policies will the Korean government pursue in the future? 3) What kind of teaching methods or methodologies will the French education require in Korea? To sum up, the things that we need for the development of French education in Korea are as follows: First, self-introspection on several issues such as the diversity of French learners in Korea should be considered. Second, the language education policies should be based on plurilingualism. Lastly, the teaching methods or methodologies appropriate to the context of French education in Korea should be developed.
