사회경제적 불평등이 건강과 관련되어 있다는 많은 연구가 존재한다. 불안정한 일자리가 노동자의 건강에 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 연구도 상당히 축적되어 있다. 이 연구는 2015년 1월∼3월 간 총 1,507명을 대상으로 실시한 실태조사 응답자 중 임금노동자 1,058명을 대상으로 비정규직 고용형태가 우울 성향으로 측정된 노동자의 정신 건강에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 데 바로 그 고용형태에서 겪은 불평등한 경험이 크게 작용하는지 여부를 살펴보았다. 조사에 참여한 정규직과 비정규직 노동자 모두 본인이 속한 해당 작업장에서 고용형태에 따른 상당히 높은 수준의 불평등이 존재한다고 응답하였다. 이 연구는 또한 조직 차원에서 존재하는 다양한 불평등의 영역과 영역별 인식의 효과를 검토하였는데, 분석결과 상대적으로 잘 알려진 불평등의 영역인 임금이나 사적인 복지제공 외에도 위험이나 태도 등과 관련된 불평등도 비정규직의 정신적 우울 수준과 관련이 있었으며, 특히 근무강도와 위험에 대한 불평등 인식은 비정규직의 우울 수준에 지속적으로 유의미한 영향력을 가지고 있었다. 정규직은 비정규직과는 달리 불평등 인식으로 인한 부정적 건강 효과가 분명하게 나타나지 않았다. 토론 및 결론에서 이 연구가 가진 정책적 함의를 논의하였다.

Many studies have demonstrated a strong relationship between socio-economic inequality and poor health. There are also many studies that have displayed a strong relationship between nonstandard employment and health problems. In this study, we investigated the relationship between employment status, perceived inequality, and poor mental health based on a recent survey conduced in 2015. Among 1,507 respondents, we analysed 1,058 employees. An absolute majority of workers perceived their workplace as highly unequal for nonstandard workers. To investigate the effects of four dimensions of perceived inequality - wage, welfare, risks, and attitudes - on depressive symptoms of nonstandard workers, we estimated linear regression models with z-standardized CES-D10 scores. Among four dimensions, perceptions related to risks inequality had the strongest effect on nonstandard workers’ depressive symptoms. Unlike nonstandard workers, mental health of regular workers was not systematically affected by perceptions of inequality.
