In order to get the datum for developing an ideal biology curriculum of secondary schoue in Korea, the 2 units($quot;Maintenance of the organism$quot;, $quot;Control and co-ordination in organisms$quot;) in the first and the second edition of the British A-level Nuffield Biology were analysed and compared each other. As a result, the following findings were obtained: 1. In the first edition of the A-level Nuffield Biology, the theme is based on structure and the function, the level, based on tissue and organ; the levels of cell, population and community are not fully stressed. 2. In the second edition of the A-level Nuffield Biology, the theme is based on structure and function, the level, based on tissue and organ as in first edition, Even though cellular levels is reinforced a little bit, the second edition is considered to be within the category of the conventional textbook. 3. It is noticeable that A-level Nuffield Biology exhibits the biology as an inquiry science. Therefore, it is desirable to adopt the concept of the inquiry biological science from the Nuffield Biology for the improvement of the ideal biology curriculum inthe Korean high schools.
