In order to obtain data for developing an ideal high school biology curriculum in Korea, the new and former editions of the Korean high school biology textbook were analyzed and compared each other. As a result, the following were obtained: 1. The new biology textbooks comprise Biology textbook I and II. In the$quot;Biology I of the new edition, the themes are stressed on $quot;genetic continuity$quot; primarily and $quot;organism and environment$quot; secondly and the levels, $quot;individual$quot; and $quot;population$quot;. 2. In the Biology II of the new edition, the themes cover $quot;structure and function$quot; primarily and $quot;regulation and homeostasis$quot; secondly and the levels, $quot;molecule$quot; and $quot;structure and function$quot;. 3. Comparing the new edition to the former edition of the biology textbooks, the new textbooks concentrate on $quot;genetic continuity$quot; whereas the former textbooks, $quot;structure and function$quot; in the themes. $quot;Individual$quot; is concentrated on both editions as the levels but the considerable stress is paid on the molecular level in the new editions. 4. The new editions of the high school biology textbooks exhibit the much progress for the establishment of the ideal high school biology curriculum even though there is a far way from the desirable goal.
