Each novel in Stephenie Meyer`s Twilight Saga has gained international best seller status in recent years. Romantic love is without a doubt the central theme in her vampire novels. Bella Swan and Edward Cullen have felt an overwhelming attraction from the moment they met and develop their love overcoming obstacles. However, whereas Bella is considered by some critics as a heroine, she is not a really good role model. Bella is frequently portrayed as stereo-typically famine. Throughout the series, she is constantly described as a weak and not an intelligent girl. She, actually, is a victim who is too often exploited and fetishized. It is primarily stalking behaviors that Edward shows Bella he is attracted to her. However, she doesn`t feel frightening or threatened, but flattered by his attention. Though he is considered as a “vegetarian” vampire who don`t drink human blood, Edward still desires both Bella`s blood and her body. He cannot control his vampire-powers during sex no matter how he tries. After they having sex for the first time, Bella is left with “large, purplish bruises” covering her arms, shoulders, and ribs. The problem is that such physical abuse, sexual abuse and stalking are portrayed as acceptable within the context of loving relationship. In addition to legitimizing violence against Bella, the Twilight series reinforce famine stereotype and promote the glorification of white privilege.
