Wang Yangmings(王陽明: 1472-1528) as a Confucianist was a person who had lived in the Ming dynasty(1368-1644). China made efficient use of his doctrines to establish the republican politics at the end of the Qing dynasty(1616-1912). On the other hand, Zhuzi`s(朱子: 1130-1200) doctrines as a branch of Confucianism could be effectively applied to Korean society to maintain the centralized political system of the Joseon dynasty in Korea. Besides, Japanese Confucianism also had an influence on the foundation of the Meiji Restoration(明治維新: 1868) during the process of Japanese modernization through the theory of Yangming`s doctrines received from China. This study focuses on the influence of Yangming`s thought on Japanese politics during the Meiji Restoration. In order to cope with this purpose, above all, the background of Wang Yangming`s thought explains the academic writings and background of the time. For Yangming`s thoughts, 1) he insisted on ‘xin means li [xin ji li 心卽理],’ ‘union of knowledge and conduct[zhi xing heyi 知行合一],’ ‘zhi langzhi 致良知’ as his philosophy; 2) ‘chengde weishi 成德爲事,’ ‘qiu shi conxin 求是存心,’ ‘shijian gongfu 實踐工夫,’ and ‘lizhi lichen 立志立誠’ as his educational thoughts; 3) ‘renzhi仁治,’ ‘dezhi 德治’ and ‘minben zhuyi 民本主義’ as his political thoughts. The part of Yangming`s thoughts in Japanese Meiji Restoration observes about the activities of Yangming`s School such as the Japanese school of Yangming`s doctrines, the participation of the Japanese Yangming`s school in the Meiji Restoration. The part of the roles of Yangming`s doctrines in Japanese Meiji Restoration evaluates the political values of Yangming`s doctrines through the ‘abolishment of the feudal system and the establishment of the Ken[heihan chiken: 廢藩置縣],’ the preparation of centralized political systems, the collapse of the hierarchical four classes, and the introduction of Western culture.
