이 연구는 최근 미국을 비롯한 여러 나라에서 새롭게 관심을 모으고 있는 A.N.Whitehead의 과정철학(process philosophy)이 교육과정에 주는 시사점을 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 과정철학의 여러 가지 기본 개념 중에서 교육, 특히 교육과정과 관련이 되는 Whitehead 철학의 요소인 창조성(creativity), 파지(prehension), 합생(concrescence), 리듬(rhythm) 등을 개괄적으로 파악하고, 이러한 개념과 관련된 교육의 목적과 가치에 기초하여 교육과정을 조명하고, 현재의 교육 실제에 대한 교육적 함의를 논의하였다.

This study was to find out the implications of Whitehead`s process philosophy for curriculum, First of all, the major concepts of his philosophy such as "creativity." "prehension, " "concrescence, " and "rhythm" were described. After that, Whitehead`s educational purpose and value were revealed in relation to the concepts. Based on that, Whitehead`s view of curriculum were analyzed. Significance of his view education and curriculum is discussed for educational practice.
