그동안 주로 신흠과 허균, 이덕무와 유만주, 조희룡을 중심으로 산발적으로 淸言小品을 연구해온 학계의 현황에서 탈피하여 연구대상이 되는 작가와 작품을 확대하고 논의를 심화시켰다. 조선 중후기 청언소품의 전체적 양상과 사적 전개를 개괄하여 종합적으로 파악하였고,『玉壺氷』과『菜根譚』같은 明淸의 작품을 새롭게 찾아 조선에서 널리 향유한 청언소품의 목록에 추가하였다. 또한 이수광과 윤흔을 비롯한 다수의 청언소품 작가를 새롭게 발굴하여 주목함으로써 그 외연을 확장하였다. 자료를 조사하고 분석한 결과, 청언소품의 향유와 창작이 기왕에 알려진 것보다 활성화되었다는 사실을 확인하였고, 문학사에서 그 비중을 더 확장하여 이해할 필요가 있음을 주장하였다.
The present situation on the study of cheongeon sopum(淸言小品, short compositions of serene words) is that it has been carried out sporadically focusing mainly on works by SIN Heum, HEO Gyun, YI Deok-mu, YU Man-ju, and JO Hui-ryong. This paper moves away from this situation and adds the names of the writers and works that should be included in the list for the study and deepens the discussion of the study. In examining the overall extent of cheongeon sopum, in terms of its readership and literary production, and its historical development in the Mid-to Late-Joseon period, this paper takes a comprehensive approach to understanding its influence and practice during this period. Thus, works such as Okhobing 玉壺氷, Jade Jar Ice and Chaegeundam 菜根譚, Vegetable Stalks Discourse from the late Ming period have been newly found and added to the list of the widely-read cheongeon sopum from the Joseon period. The paper also discovers a number of cheongeon sopum writers for the first time, including YI Su-gwang and YUN Heun, and thus broadens the study boundary. The result of this study shows that readership and literary production of cheongeon sopum were much more extensive in scope than was previously known, and that more weight should be given to its study in literary history.
