『겐지 이야기』의 와카무라사키 권에서는 주인공인 히카루겐지가 병을 치유하기 위해 기타야마라는 산으로 간다. 거기에서 한 수도승의 가지기도를 받은 히카루겐지는 건강을 회복하고 도읍지로 돌아가게 된다. 그 이별을 아쉬워하며 수도 승과 승려는 히카루겐지에게 ‘몸을 수호’하라며 선물을 하는데, 그 중에는 쇼토쿠 태자가 소유하고 있었던 것으로 백제에서 전래된 금강자 염주가 있었다. 이 장면 에서 백제와 쇼토쿠 태자라는 고유명사는 하나의 표현방법으로 쓰인 것인데, 본고에서는 그러한 표현을 낳은 시대적 배경과 그 표현에 의해 작품 세계가 어떻게 달라지는지를 분석하였다. 『겐지 이야기』가 쓰인 헤이안 시대의 사람들에게 있어서 백제는 일본에 불교를 전한 나라로서, 말하자면 일본불교의 기원이라고 여겨졌다. 또 쇼토쿠태자는 일본에 불교가 전해졌을 때 지극히 큰 역할을 한 인물로 일본불교의 교주라고 일컬어지기도 한다. 이렇게 일본불교에 있어서 절대적인 권위를 가진 백제와 쇼토쿠 태자의 이름을 등에 업은 염주가 히카루겐지에게 ‘몸을 수호’하기 위한 도구로 계승되었다는 것은 불법세계에 있어서 히카루겐지의 권위를 드높이는 것이다. 또 불법세계에 반항하는 존재인 원령의 영향으로 병에 걸린 히카루겐지가 그러한 권위를 획득했다는 것은, 두 번 다시 원형에 의해서 해를 입지 않는 존재가된다는 것을 의미한다.

Hikaru Genji of the chief character goes to Mount Kitayama to cure a disease in “The tale of Genji”. And He who received the prayer of the Buddhist priest finally recovers and will come back to the capital. Therefore the Buddhist priest who regretted parting with him offers him the a Buddhist prayer beads which Prince Shotoku owned as “a lucky charm”. Besides, as for the Buddhist prayer beads, it was transmitted from Baekje. In this report, I examined a background in the times when “Baekje” and “Prince Shotoku” were used as one expression in this scene. And I analyzed it what kind of meaning occurred in this work because of such an expression. It was thought that Baekje was the origin place introduced Buddhism into Japan in the Heian era. And Prince Shotoku was the big person who played its part when Buddhism was conveyed by Japan. It means authority of Hikaru Genji in the Buddhism world that he was given beads connected with such Backje and Prince Shotoku.
