Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is characterized by acute onset of widespread pustular eruption in association with fever and leukocytosis. Histologically, AGEP is composed of neutrophilic subcorneal and spongiform pustules. Most cases have been triggered by ingestion of drugs, mainly antibiotics, but viral and bacterial infections may cause AGEP. Lacquer, a compound prevalent in plants of the genus Rhus, can cause localized contact dermatitis by direct contact with the skin, and systemic contact dermatitis by the ingestion of lacquer. Rarely, the intake of lacquer-boiled chicken, lacquer tree sprouts can be a cause of AGEP. We experienced two patients who presented with fever, generalized erythematous patches and multiple small disseminated pustules after the intake of lacquer-boild chicken and lacquer tree sprouts. Skin biopsy of two patients revealed subcorneal neutrophilic infiltrate, spongiform pustules, papillary edema and perivascular and interstitial infiltrate of neutrophils and eosinophils. Herein we report two rare cases of AGEP induced by Rhus.
