이 논문은 20세기 서구 비판적 사회철학의 주요 이론들인 그람시의 헤게모니론, 알튀세르의 이데올로기적 국가장치론, 아도르노의 문화산업론, 푸코의 미시권력론, 들뢰즈의 욕망의 영토화론을 권력과 지배의 관점에서 비교 고찰하고, 이로부터 통합적인 현대시민사회의 지배양식론을 구성하고자 시도한다. 맑스주의적 지배양식론에 해당하는 그람시의 헤게모니론과 알튀세르의 이데올로기적 국가장치론은 대중의 의식의 이데올로기적 지배의 측면에 초점이 맞 추어져 있다. 물리적 강제력으로서의 국가에 한정되어 있던 시각을 이데올로기측면으로까지 확장한 것은 이들의 이론적인 기여이나, 다른 한편 이데올로기적 지배와 복합적으로 작동하는 다른 지배양식인 경제적 지배 양식의 문제를 간과하였다. 푸코와 들뢰즈를 위시한 포스트모던 지배양식론은 맑스주의적 지배양식론과 비교할 때, 지배양식의 분석을 확대, 심화하는 새로운 내용들을 발전시키고 있다. 후자의 이데올로기 분석이 주로 의식의 영역에서 이루어졌던 데에 비해, 푸코의 생체권력이나 들뢰즈의 욕망의 영토화론은 이 의식의 영역을 넘어 무의식과 육체, 욕망의 영역으로 확장된다. 그런데 포스트모던 지배양식론도 크게 보면 이데올로기적 지배의 차원에 주로 초점이 맞추어져 있고, 현실적인 물질적인 삶, 즉 경제적 차원에서의 지배의 작동에 대해서는 고찰이 이루어지지 않고 있다. 20세기 서구 비판적 사회철학에서는 경제적 지배양식에 대한 논의는 거의이루어지지 않았다. 바로 이점이 20세기 서구의 지배양식론의 근본적인 취약점이었다.

This study tries to compare the main theories of the western critical social philosophy in the 20th century, the theory of hegemony by A. Gramsci, the theory of ideological state apparatus by L. Althusser, the theory of micro-power by Foucault and the theory of the territorialization of the desire by Deleuze from the perspective of the power and domination, and from these considerations searches for the possibility, to constitute a integrative general theory of domination in the modern civil society. The Gramscian theory of hegemony and the Althusserian theory of ideological state apparatus focused on the ideological domination of the consciousness. This expansion of the domination to the problem of the Ideology is their contribution, but they overlooked the economical aspect of the domination which operates with the ideological domination organically. Foucault and Deleuze has deepened the analysis of the domination to the scope of the unconscious, body and desire. This post-modern theory of domination is the outstanding development which goes over the marxist analysis of domination, but it stays also in the domain of the ideological domination in broader sense. The domination in the material and economical life is left uninvestigated. The Absence of the analysis of the economical mode of domination is the theoretical vulnerability of the western critical social philosophy in the 20th century which was unable to analyze the social domination (or successful integration) of the social welfare state in the second half of the 20th century.
