최근 해외에서 호평을 받고 있는 한국 패션 디자이너들의 수가 늘어나고 있다. 이에 따라, 본 연구에서는 근래에 국내외에 이름을 널리 알리고 있는 한국의 듀오 디자이너 브랜드인 스티브 J. & 요니 P.의 작품연구를 통해 이들이 컬렉션에서 보여주고 있는 동시대적 미적 특성을 고찰함을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법으로는 스티브 J. & 요니 P.의 컬렉션 시작 단계인 2007 F/W 컬렉션부터 최근 2015 S/S 컬렉션까지의 작품 사진 총 343점을 대상으로 스티브 J. & 요니 P.의 패션 디자인에 나타난 미적 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 디자이너 스티브 J. & 요니 P.는 자신들의 컬렉션 뿐만 아니라, 다양한 콜라보레이션 디자인 작업을 진행하고, 그들 스스로의 모습을 대중 매체에 많이 노출시킴으로써 새로운현대 패션 디자이너의 모습을 보여주고 있었다. 둘째, 스티브 J. & 요니 P.의 패션 디자인의 시기별 변화를 보면, 초기에는 디자이너로서의 감성 표현에 치중하였으나, 점차 상업적인 디자이너로 성장하였고, 2011년 이후 최근까지 컬렉션에서는 소녀 감성의 재미있는 디자인을 이들의 특징으로 완성해 가고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 스티브 J. & 요니 P.의 패션 디자인의 미적 특성은 순수성, 유희성, 환상성으로 요약할 수 있었다. 스티브 J. & 요니 P.의 고유함과 동시대 보편적인 감성을 보여주는 패션 디자인은 현대 한국 패션 디자이너의 나아갈 바를 제시하고 있다고 할 수 있다.

There are an increasing number of Korean designers who have received rave reviews from abroad in recent years. This paper takes a look at the collections of the duo-designer brand, Steve J. & Yoni P., two of the well-known Korean designers, and analyzes the contemporary aesthetic characteristics of their fashion collections. For this study, 343 photographs of their work were analyzed, spanning from their 2007 F/W collection to 2015 S/S collection. The results may be summarized as the following. First, designers Steve J. and Yoni P. not only present their own collections but also collaborate with various artists and expose themselves to mass media in many ways, creating a new brand of modern fashion designers. Second, their chronological changes suggest their focus on the expression of emotion as designers in the initial phase, their later successful growth as commercial designers, and their most recent completion of interesting design of girlish sensitivity since 2011. Third, the aesthetic characteristics of their design may be summarized as the beauty of purity, the beauty of amusement and the beauty of fantasy. The fashion design of Steve J. & Yoni P. with their uniqueness and a contemporary universal sensitivity seems to present the future direction for modern Korean fashion designers.
