전남 지역에는 지난날 다양한 누정문화가 발달하였다. 또 누정에 대한 학문적 관심 역시 다른 지역보다 비교적 일찍부터 주어졌다. 이러한 점에 주목하여 전남누정의 전반적인 모습과 성격을 살핀 것이 바로 이 글이다. 논의는 크게 다음 두 방향으로 진행하였다. 먼저 전남누정을 개관하며 그 간략한 역사와 지역별 분포 및 주요한 누정을 검토하였다. 이어 연구 동향 탐색을 통해 지금까지 전남누정에 주어진 주요한 관심사와 더불어 그 두드러진 성격을 고찰하였다. 그 과정에서 많은 연구가 시문의 산실 또는 지역공동체의 중심으로서의 성격에 주목하였음을 볼 수 있었다. 마지막으로 아직 미진한 연구 분야 및 극복해야 할 과제를 지적하였다.

Diverse cultures of Nujeong were developed in Jeonnam area and this area started to receive scholarly interest about Nujeong comparatively earlier than other areas. Based on this point, this paper addressed the whole characteristics of Jeonnam Nujeong. I organized this study in the following two ways. First, with a general overview of Jeonnam Nujeong I examined its brief history, its regional distribution, and the main ones. Next, through the study of its research trends, I considered not only the major interest about Jeonnam Nujeong which has been given so far but also its remarkable characteristics. Through the process, I could see a lot of works focused on the characteristics as the cradle of poetry and the ones as the center of the community. Finally, I suggested a field of study that is still unsatisfactory and some tasks that must be overcome.
