『隣語大方』은 18-19세기 조선시대에 일본어를 학습하기 위해 편찬한 교재이다. 이 논문은 奎章閣本『隣語大方』에 쓰인 어휘를 분석한 것으로, 일차적으로 정도 부사의 분포와 기능을 다룬 것이다. 당시의 문례를 통해 정도 부사의 용법을 살펴보고, 통사와 의미의 통시적인 추이상을 추구하려고 했다. 자료에 나오는 정도 부사는 대체로 {□장}, {하}, {만히}, {아조}, {대단이}, {너모}, {□오}, {극히}, {죠금} 등인데, 현대 국어의 그것과는 수적으로 매우 적다. 이는 당시 정도 부사의 어휘 분화가 매우 제한적이었다는 사실과 이 자료의 분량적인 제약으로 말미암은 것으로 판단된다. 정도 부사의 한정을 받는 피한정어의 양태를 분석하고, 각기 정도 부사에 대응하는 일본어의 부사들을 비교함으로써 그 의미 기능과 강의 정도를 귀납적으로 설명했다. 정도 부사의 한정을 받는 말로는 현대 국어처럼 형용사가 주류를 이루는데, 그 외에도 상태 부사와 부사절(구), 그리고 동사가 되기도 했다. 이들의 공통되는 의미 특성은 [+상태]를 가지고 있다는 점이다. 양국어 정도 부사의 대응 관계에서 상호 1대 1인 경우는 찾아볼 수 없다. 이는 당시의 정도 부사가 다의성을 가졌고, 한편 그들 사이에는 유의성을 가졌다는 것을 의미한다. 따라서 당시의 정도 부사들은 일반적인 어휘적 변별력을 근원적으로 지니고 있으면서도 서로 포괄적인 유의군을 형성하고 있었던 것으로 결론 내릴 수 있다.

『隣語大方』 is a textbook published to educate the public to learn Japanese in the 18th to through the 19th Century in the Chosun dynasty. This paper analyzes the vocabulary words contained in 『隣語 大方』, and deals primarily with the distribution and the function of the degree adverbs. Degree adverbs appearing in 『隣語大方』 are mostly {□장}, {하}, {만히}, {아조}, {대단이}, {너모}, {□오}, {극히}, and {죠금}. However, the number of degree adverbs in 『隣語大方』 is noticeably small compared to the present Korean. This paper inductively explains the semantic functions, as well as the intensifying degree of the degree adverbs by analyzing the shapes of the words being modified and by comparing the adverbs to their Japanese counterparts. The words modified by the degree adverbs were mainly adjectives, similar to the present Korean. They also include stative adverbs, adverbs clauses(phrases), and verbs. A semantic feature shared among them is [+stative]. It was revealed that the Korean degree adverbs in 『隣語大方』 did not match exactly to their Japanese counterparts. This suggests that those degree adverbs had polysemy, but that their polysemy shared synonymy at that time.
