본고에서는 호남학연구원을 통해 발표된 문화예술분야의 연구 성과를 점검해 보고 그 의의와 앞으로의 연구방향을 조망해 보았다. 문화예술분야는 건축, 미술, 음악, 문화콘텐츠, 축제, 연희, 기타 등으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이들 각 분야 중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하는 것은 건축과 미술이며, 근년에 들어 연구가 활성화되고 있는 문화콘텐츠와 축제가 그 뒤를 잇고 있다. 호남학연구원에서 발간하는 학술지 『호남문화연구』와 산하 감성연구단의 논문집 『감성연구』를 통해 지난 50년간 발표된 논문은 총 440편이며 발간된 단행본 호남문화총서는 69권이다. 그 중 문화예술 관련 논문은 총 65편으로 전체의 약 15%에 해당하며, 단행본은 6권으로 약 9%에 해당한다. 이러한 성과는 문화예술의 고장이라는 호남의 명성에는 채 미치는 못하지만 그럼에도 이곳만의 특색 있는 성과를 낸 면도 있다. 문화예술분야 연구의 흐름은 초반기 자료수집과 분석 등 기초연구에서 점차 콘텐츠화 작업이나 축제, 마케팅과 같은 기초연구를 활용한 2차 연구로 옮겨가는 추세임을 볼 수 있다. 이는 연구 성과의 활용이라는 면에서는 의미를 갖지만 토대가 되는 심층연구에 비해 이벤트성 문화연구의 비중이 큰 아쉬움도 없지 않다. 문화예술분야 연구 성과는 타 분야에 비해 양적으로 많지 않다. 호남학연구원의 연구 성과가 호남학 연구수준을 가늠하는 절대적 지표는 아니나, 문화예술의 고장이라는 명성에 비해 연구논문의 편수나 게제의 지속성, 그리고 분야의 다양성 등은 기대에 미치지 못하였다. 연구 성과의 미흡은 호남문화와 예술을 연구하는 이 지역 전문연 구자의 부족이 그 원인이다. 연구자가 적다보니 연구내용 또한 호남 문화의 일부에 국한되어 있고, 계획적이고 지속적인 연구보다는 단발적인 연구가 이루어진 면도 간과할 수 없다. 호남문화 전반에 대해 지속적이고 체계적인 조사 연구가 이루어질 수 있도록 인적자원의 확보와 함께 이를 뒷받침 해줄 제도적 장치의 마련이 절실히 요구된다.

For general view of pavilion literature in Chonnam province, it needs to classify the area into a few districts in detail. This article set the sub-districts of pavilion literature in Chonnam as the western part centering around Mt. Moodeung and Youngsan River, the eastern part around Mt. Jiri and Seomjin River, and the southern part around the Southern Coast. And the subject treated is limited to the western part centering around Mt. Moodeung and Youngsan River, which is subdivided into the upstream and downstream again. As a result, the study could find out that the pavilion literature in the upstream region including Gwangju, Damyang, Jangsung, Hwasun, Younggwang, and Naju shows much more extensive and active aspects than that in the downstream region. Especially, so called, “Moodeungsan Poetic Literature” centering around Gwangju and Damyang showed remarkable activities. And also “Integrity and Loyalty, and Patriotism” appeared as common literary characteristics in the downstream region including Hampyeong, Mooan, Mokpo, Youngam, and Haenam. Based on the results, the article suggests developing pavilion literature as cultural contents. The process of mapping literature and thoughts is like that of developingcontents itself. Setting “an axle” or groping “a route” described in the body can be said as a storyboard required for developing cultural contents. The status of pavilion and pavilion literature described in this article will play a role as a raw material which enables the stories to constitute a content. In addition, it is expected that we can result in more diverse “multi-use” contents by “remind mapping” of the set story itself.
