이 연구의 목적은 진로발달 단계에서 진로 탐색기에 속해 있는 중학교 학생들을 대상으로, 진로 탐색을 위한 도구로서 독서가 갖는 의미에 대한 인식을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 중학생들의 진로 지도에서 독서를 활용하 기 위한 방안을 제안하는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 서울.경기 지역의 중학생 299명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 독서 현황과 진로 교육, 진로 탐색에서 독서를 활용하는 방식 등을 분석하였다. 연구 결과를 정리하면, 첫째, 중학생의 독서 흥미는 보통 수준이 었으며 진로성숙도는 약간 그러하다의 수준을 보였다. 독서 흥미와 진로성 숙도가 통계적으로 유의한 상관이 있어 진로성숙도를 높이기 위해 독서 흥미를 높이고 독서를 즐겨할 수 있도록 하는 것이 학생들에게 도움이 될 수 있다. 둘째, 독서를 활용한 진로 지도 경험은 많지 않아 진로프로그램에서 독서를 적극적으로 활용하는 것이 필요하겠다. 또한 학교 전체의 진로교육 이 통합적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 체계적인 진로교육프로그램을 구안할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 중학생들의 진로 탐색에서 독서를 활용하는 방식을 분석 한 결과 상당수 학생들이 진로에 대한 정보 제공원으로서 인쇄매체의 자료 들을 긍정적으로 신뢰하고 있는 것으로 나타났으므로, 중학생들이 인쇄매체 에서 자신의 희망 진로와 관련된 다양한 도서를 찾아 읽을 수 있도록 하는 도서 검색 방법에 대한 지도가 필요하다. 중학생들의 진로성숙도가 독서와 밀접한 상관을 맺고 있으므로, 중학생 들의 진로 교육에서 자아 성찰적이며, 다양한 탐색 활동을 가능하게 하는 독서 활동을 더욱 적극적으로 활용되어야 하겠다.

The purpose of this study is to search the meaning of reading in middle school students`` career exploration, and to suggest the way of using reading for career education. This study is a survey of 299 students of 3 middle schools in Seoul and Kyeonggi-do, and an analysis of reading for career education and career exploration. The result of research is that reading interest is in middle level, and the degree of career maturity is a little higher than middle level. Reading interest has a meaningful correlation with the degree of career maturity, so it is useful to read pleasantly and make reading interest higher for career maturity. The students`` experiences of career instruction through reading activity are not enough, so it is necessary to expand using reading for career education. And it is necessary to make a system of career education program for integrated career education for school. The analysis of how middle school students use reading for career exploration is that they depend on the printed media for the source of career information. So it needs to teach middle school students how to search books that suits for their expected career.Middle school students`` reading has a meaningful correlation with the degree of career maturity, so it is necessary to use reading for various exploration of career and self-reflection.
