객관성을 주장하기 위한 ‘지표들’을 노직은 4가지로 제시한다. 이 지표들은 ‘불변’ 개념과 깊이 연관되어 있다. 그 것들은 1) 다양한 각도에서의 접근 가능성, 2) 간주관적 동의, 3) 독립, 4) 변환 속 불변이다. 필자는 이 논문에서 객관성의 지표로서 노직이 제시한 4가지의 중요성과 한계에 대해 논의할 것이다. 노직이 밝혀주고 있는 이 4가지 지표는 기본적으로 객관성 확보를 위해 요구되는 핵심 내용을 지니는 충실한 항목이다. 하지만, 지표의 일부에 대해서는 비판적 검토가 필요하다. 한 예로, 4가지 지표 가운데서 노직은 특히 변환 속 불변을 강조하는데, 그는 이 변환 속 불변이라는 지표가 다른 지표보다 객관성을 주장하는 데 더 근본적인 사항이 된다고 본다. 그는 서로 다른 좌표계 사이에서의 변환 속에서 나타나는 ‘법칙’의 불변에 집중한다. 필자는 변환 속 불변이라는 지표가 법칙과 관련해서만 나타나는 것이 아니라 ‘사실’과 관련해서도 나타남을 보여줌으로써 노직의 변환 속 불변 개념을 확대할 수 있다고 논의할 것이다. 하지만 변환 속 불변이라는 지표를 모든 사실에 대해서 적용하기는 곤란하며 어떤 종류의 사실의 객관성을 확보하기 위해서 적용하는 데는 한계가 있다는 점도 덧붙일 것이다. 이러한 논의를 위해 필자는 변환 개념을 ‘적극적’ 변환 개념과 ‘소극적’ 변환 개념으로 나눈다. 노직의 논의의 중요성과 한계를 토의하는 과정에서 갤리슨, 반 프라센의 견해와 대비하고자 한다

In order to argue for objectivity, Nozick presents four ``marks`` for objectivity. All of these marks are deeply related to the concept of ``invariance``. They are 1) accessible from different angles, 2) intersubjective agreement, 3) independence, and 4) invariance in transformations. In this paper, I argue on the significance and the limits of these four marks for objectivity presented by Nozick. These four marks by Nozick are basically fruitful items for establishing objectivity. Nevertheless, part of these marks need critical examinations. For instance, Nozick stresses the mark of ``invariance in transformations`` among others. He sees that the mark of invariance in transformations is more fundamental for establishing objectivity. It is partially understandable that the mark of invariance in transformations basically has such a trait. I will discuss, however, that the mark of invariance in transformations has limits to be applied to some kind of facts. In order to understand this aspects, I will introduce the concept of ``active`` transformation and ``passive`` transformation. In the process of discussing the significance and the limits of Nozick`s arguments, I will contrast his arguments to those of Galison`s and van Fraassen`s.
