본 연구는 국제산업연관표를 이용하여 우리나라 부가가치 기준 무역을 분석하고자 한다. 구체적으로 2007년부터 2011년까지 WIOD의 국제산업연관표를 활용하여 국가 및 산업 단위의 부가가치 기준 무역의 분석을 수행함으로써 글로벌 경제 위기의 영향에 대한 시사점을 제공하고 수상운송업을 중심으로 정책적 함의를 도출한다. 분석 결과, 2009년 우리나라 GDP의 해외 의존도가 타 국가와 달리 전년 대비 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 국내 수요에 기반한 부가가치가 큰 폭으로 감소했기 때문이며, 우리나라의 내수 경제가 타 국가에 비해 글로벌 위기에 취약한 구조를 갖춘 것으로 해석된다. 한편, 부가가치 해외의존도가 99.5%에 이르는 수상운송업은 순수출 및 부가가치 순이입 측면에서 전체 산업 가운데 4위를 기록하는 등 수상운송업의 경제적 역할이 중요하다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 글로벌 무역 패턴을 자세하게 분석함으로써 우리나라 수상운송업의 발전 방향을 수립하는 데 큰 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다.

This paper aims to analyze Korean trade in value added using global multi-regional input-output model. For the analyses of the Korean trade in value added between 2007 and 2011, time-series of world input-ouput tables for 40 countries and a model for the rest of the world provided by the World Input Ouput Database (WIOD) are used. We study the comparison of Korean trade in value added before and after the global financial crisis. In particular, we explore policy implications for water transport industry from the analyses. The results show that Korea was more dependent on foreign final demands in 2009 when compared to other countries. This is mainly caused by reducing trade in value added from domestic final demands, not by enhancing Korea`s export performance and competitiveness. It means that Korea`s domestic economic structure is more vulnerable under conditions of external uncertainty (i.e., global crisis) than that of other countries. Of all types of industries, water transport industry ranks fourth for its net export and net trade in value added, which implies that water transport industry plays a key role in economic activities. Finally, these findings will contribute to helping in formulating the strategy on the development of the Korean water transport industry.
