본 연구는 2000년 이후 영유아기 공교육 체제로 전환하고, 유치원에 입학하기 이전의 0∼만 2세와 만 3～4/5세의 조기학습기준을 연계하여 국가교육정책을 실행하고 있는 미국의 조기학습기준의 분석을 통하여 한국의 영아와 유아를 연계한 유아교육과정의 방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 미국의 조기학습기준은 0∼만 2세는 발달중심으로, 만 3∼4/5세는 교과중심의 특성이 있었다. 구체적으로, 0∼만 2세와 만 3∼4/5세의 조기학습기준은 첫째, 연령의 연계 혹은 분리에 관계없이 거의 모든 미국의 주에서 언어발달, 사회정서발달, 신체발달 영역을 포함하고 있었다. 둘째, 발달의 인지발달 영역과 교과의 하위 영역은 0∼만 2세 영아와 만 3∼4/5세 유아의 조기학습기준에서 분명한 차이가 있었다. 셋째, 사회정서발달과 교과의 사회연구 영역은 0∼만 2세 영아 조기학습기준에서는 대부분의 주에서 사회정서발달을 포함하고 있었지만, 만 3∼4/5세, 0∼만 4/5세 연령이 연계되어 개발된 주의 조기학습기준에서는 대부분의 주에서 사회정서발달과 교과의 사회연구 영역 모두를 포함하고 있었다. 넷째, 0∼만 2세와 만 3∼4/5세의 조기학습기준 모두에서 학습에 대한 접근 영역이 공통적으로 포함되어 있었다. 연구결과를 통해 얻은 교육적 시사점을 통하여 첫째, 0∼만 2세와 만 3∼4/5세 유아교육과정 영역의 내용을 발달과 교과 형태로 적절히 구분하여 연계하는 방안의 필요성, 둘째, 학습에 대한 접근 영역의 필요성을 제안하였다.
In this study, the America`s early learning standards before staring kindergarten education was analyzed to investigate a way of future-focused early childhood education. The America`s early learning standards solidifying the early childhood education by turning it as a public education system since 2000 and was implementing the national education policy and developing the early learning standards for 0～only two years old and only three～four years old children. In the results, the America`s early learning standards for 0～only two years old represented development-centered and three～four children represented subject-centered characteristics. In particular, there were large changes in cognitive developments and subject contents including social emotional developments and social studies in the early learning standards for 0～only two years old and only three～four years old children. In addition, there existed a characteristic of including the approach to the early learning standards for 0～only two years old and only three～four years old children. The educational message obtained in this study showed a necessity of investigating a way of connecting the curriculum for each subject ages as developments and subjects based on proper identifications. Also, a necessity of approaches to learning was proposed.
