In terms of historical studies on Goryeo`s foreign trades, a huge amount of research has already been accumulated, and thanks to those efforts a lot of things are discovered in terms of the Goryeo people`s efforts and activities targeted at foreign markets or foreign merchants visiting the Korean peninsula. But there are also some other areas which are not yet sufficiently discussed, and in order to build a more complete version of the Korean peninsula`s history of foreign trades in the Goryeo dynasty period, new researches dedicated to those areas are not only welcome but also deemed more than imperative. In terms of the Goryeo people`s ‘counterparts’ in trades, not only members of the Sung dynasty but also those of the Liao and Chin dynasties, as well as Japan, Southeast Asian regions, and the West Asian world, should be studied more in the future. In terms of trade items, signature items which were heavily exported from Goryeo, such as Goryeo porcelain, should be examined in a broader perspective. In terms of traffic routes, long range courses as well as short range ones should be newly discovered and verified. And in terms of ‘performers’ of such trades, not only the Sung merchants but also the Uighur merchants, as well as other non-commercial entities like policy makers (the kings), deserve a lot more attention.
