The Policy of Private Secondary School under the Japanese Colonial Rule: Classification and Arrangement

This study focuses on the policy of private secondary school who was the Korean`s nationalistic educationl organ during the Japanese colonial period. Japanese colonial regime took measures of classification and arrangement of private secondary schools in hierarchical schools system in order to change the schools into colonial educational organ. Japanese classified secondary school into formal school(Godeung Botong School), designated school(Ji Jung School) and informal school(Gak Jong School) and arranged them hierarchically. In that hierarchy, the higher it was, the more it gave it`s students the success opportunity. And the higher it was, the more it`s education was colonialized. Korean wanted to grade up their lives with the academic background. In such condition, private secondary schools had no choice but to enter the colonial school system.
