본 연구에서는 율곡과 다산의 교육사상을 비교·분석해봄으로써 이들의 교육사상이 현대교육에 주는 시사점에 대해 알아보았다. 비록 200년의 시간적인 차이에도 불구하고 율곡과 다산의 교육사상은 각각의 고유한 특징을 가지고 있으나 근본적인 유사점도 많이 있었다. 두 학자의 교육사상이 현대를 살아가는 우리에게 주는 시사점은 비판적·개혁적 사고, 실천적 교육, 학습동기부여중시, 자기혁신을 통한 학습습관형성이다. 율곡과 다산은 지식탐구에 앞서 인성교육과 개인수양이 바탕이 된 학문을 강조하였고, 학문의 이론과 실천이 일치하는 실천적 학문을 중시하였다. 또한, 스스로 배우고자 하는 학습동기를 중시하였고, 올바른 학문을 위해 자기 성찰과 신독 그리고 학습에 방해가 되는 걸림돌을 떨쳐버리는 자기혁신을 강조하였다. 율곡과 다산은 시대의 사회현상과 교육 실태를 비판적이고 개혁적인 시각으로 진단하고 개선하려고 노력을 하였다. 이들 두 학자의 가르침을 이어 받아 우리도 끊임없이 우리의 교육 실태를 비판적이고 개혁적인 시각으로 검토하고 보완점을 마련하는 것이 필요하다.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implications the ideas and methods of Yulgok and Dasan have on modern education. This study suggests that the following educational prinicples emphasized by Yulgok and Dasan can be applied to Korea`s education: education focusing on development, creating motivation to learn, forming desirable learning habits, practical education and appropriate reading education. The two scholars regarded humans as educational beings, emphasizing one`s motivation to learn. Moreover, they stressed that the importance of personality education and personal discipline is more important than the search for knowledge. In order to pursue the desirable state of learning, they also emphasized self reflection, behavior discipline and correct language use. In addition, they emphasized practical studies, matching the theory of the study with its practice. The following study concludes that in a time when our educational environment is in turmoil, Yulgok and Dasan`s teachings will act as a compass to lead us to desirable lands.
