Forest Management Practices Taken by Indonesia Forestry Sector in Response to REDD+

Indonesia committed to reduce emissions nationwide by at least 26 % by 2020, and forestry and peat land becomes priority area. 57% of total Indonesia forest areas designated for production purposes and mostly managed by private sector. Considering the importance of the role of private sector in supporting the success of implementation of REDD+ in Indonesia, it is important to understand how currently private sectors in Indonesia include REDD+ criteria into their forest management plan. This study explores forest management plans of private sector in efforts to include REDD+ criteria. This study employs content analysis of forest management plans of top ten forestry companies in Indonesia and open interviews of experts. The hypothesis of the study is that private sectors has not included all criteria of needed for REDD+ implementation. Next study expected can answer why private sector hasnotincluded REDD+ criteria however in fact based on Indonesia government regulation they have been allowed to participate in REDD+ scheme.
