「月令」( 예기 )에서는 만물의 생동변화 양상을 절후에 따라 인식하면서 천자의 일상을 통해 정형화시키는 한편, 농업과 관련한 시기적절한 고려와 조치들이 수록되어 있다. 그 속에 내포된 전통적 사유와 일상은 유교를 표방하던 지식인들이 일상에서 사유하던 하나의 표준으로 활용되었다. 이 논문에서는 「월령」에서 제시된 사유가 자연과 인간을 하나로 ‘疏通’시킨다는 관점, 특히 소통의 방식과 그 중심 고리로서 ‘祭祀’에 주목한 것이다. 「월령」의 체계와 내용은 하늘의 지표인 별자리 중심의 천문 현상으로부터 시작하여각 절기마다 감지될 수 있는 자연현상을 천문·자연·인간의 모든 영역에 걸쳐 유비적으로 대응시켜 기술하고 있다. 그 중 郊祭祀에서 보이듯 하늘에 대한 천자의 제사가 상징하는 것은 하늘의 아들이자 인간의 대표자로서 천지의 대자연과 소통을 의미한다. 또한 천자의 의·식·주, 특히 明堂制度와 계절의 한 중앙에 土를 배치하는 것은 五行思想에 기초한 전통적 사유가 현실에 그대로 적용되고 있음을 보여준다. 또한 절기마다 제사를 통해 천지자연과 소통하려는 천자의 의례는 농경을 토대로 하는 전통사회에서 근로의욕을 고취시키는 계기로 이어진다. 풍년을 기원하는 祈穀祭와 농경의 시작을 알리는 親耕禮등은 농사의 소중함을 공감하고 근면성실을 독촉하는 효과적인 방안이기도 하였다. 특히 이러한 의례는 민생과 직결될 뿐만 아니라 선왕에게 바칠 제수를 준비하는 과정이 포함되었기 때문에 매우 중시하였다. 이처럼 농경의 시작에서 마무리과정까지 자연의 절기에 따른 제반조치들에서 제사는 자연과 소통하면서, 그 변화양상에 순응하도록 하는 등 노동을 활성화하는 촉매제로 활용되었던 것이다. 이상과 같이 하늘-땅-인간을 소통시키려는 「월령」의 체계는 제사를 통해 현실에서 적극적으로 운용된다. 그러나 五行思想이나 災異등 「월령」에서 제시하는 사유는 오늘날에 있어 전통과 현대, 동양과 서양을 구분하고 가로막는 또 하나의 틀이 되기도 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 자연과 인간의 유비적 대응양상을 폭넓게 해명하려는 「월령」의 사유를 통해 소통부재에 직면한 현대문명에 반성적 시각을 제공받을 수 있을 것이다.
「Wolryung」(月令) that is one of part of the Book of Rites(禮記) that recognized all aspects of everything according to the change of nature and standardized it through king`s routine life. Also it included many adequate methods that are related with agriculture. The thoughts and routine life that are included in the book was utilized as a norm among the intellectuals who intended to the Confucianism. This article focus on the vies that the thoughts are suggested in the 「Wolryung」lead to mutual understanding between human and nature. In addition, it is also important that the main method to perform a religious service(祭祀) As a son of Heaven and representative of human, the king understands the nature through Gyochunrye(郊天禮) and Myoungdangje(明堂制). Also he applied the nature`s rule and power to human life when he distributed government orders and led to obey and follow change of nature. Especially, King`s ceremony was utilized to encourage the will to produce through Gigokje(祈穀制) and Chinkyungje(親耕 禮) that are both kind of ceremony to wish a fruitful year in the traditional society. The system of thought of 「Wolryung」(月令) leads harmony and understanding of Heaven, Land, and human. However, it also becomes a tool that obstructs and divides the Western and the Eastern because it also includes thinking based on five phase(五行) or disaster(災異). In spite of the this disadvantage, we can find out one way to understand nature and other existence through this thought that try to explain the harmony and deep relationship between nature and human.
