본 연구의 목적은 유아교육기관에서 유아를 위한 영어교육으로 도입할 수 있는 요리활동을 컨텐츠기반으로 제안하는 것이다. 위와 같은 연구목적을 위하여 본 연구에서는 연구문제를 다음과 같이 설정하였다. 1. 컨텐츠 기반 관련연구의 경향은 어떠한가? 2. 의사소통 능력(BICS)과 학문적 능력, 즉 요리관련 용어 개념이해능력(CALP)은 어떠한가? 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 EFL 환경인 우리나라에서 의사소통으로서 영어교육이 컨텐츠기반에서 이루어져야 한다는 점에 초점을 두고 연구를 수행하였다. 먼저 컨텐츠기반 관련연구의 경향을 살펴보았다. 컨텐츠기반 연구의 시작은 LA통합교육국의 KDLP(Korean/English Dual Language Program, 한/영이중언어프로그램)을 들 수 있는데, 이 프로그램은 이중언어에 대한 제반 연구의 증거와 사실에 기반을 두고 있고 1992년 이후 계속 발전하고 있다. 그 역사는 사회적, 경제적, 정치적, 학문적 요소와 아주 밀접한 연관이 있다. 다음으로 의사소통능력(BICS)과 학문적 능력, 즉 요리관련 용어 개념 이해능력(CALP)에 관하여 살펴보았다. 의사소통능력(BICS)이란 Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills로서 기본적 대인의사소통기술, 즉 의사소통영어 혹은 생활영어를 의미한다. 이 영어 능력은 영어를 구사하는 사회에서는 놀이터에서 습득되는 표현들이라고 해서 놀이터영어라고도 말한다. 생활영어는 제2언어인 경우에 ‘6개월에서 2년의 세월’이 소요되는 반면에, 학문적 능력, 즉 요리관련 용어 개념이해능력(CALP)이란 Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency로서 인지 학문적 언어 능숙, 즉 요리관련 용어 개념이해영어를 의미한다. 학문적 영어능력은 학문을 하고 토의하는데 필요한 영어능력으로 제2언어로서 학습하는 경우에 적어도 ‘5년의 세월’이 소요된다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 EFL 환경인 우리나라에서 의사소통으로서 영어교육은 컨텐츠기반에서 이루어져야 함을 피력하였다.

The purpose of this study is to suggest English education for young children based cooking activity for early childhood centers. For the purpose of this study addressed research questions as follow: 1. What is trend of study related to contents based program? 2. What is young children`s BICS and CALP related cooking? For this purpose, this study conducted to view of English education must be conducted contents based for a communication in EFL environment in Korea. The following summarizes the results of this study: First, the beginning of study related to contents based is KDLP(Korean/English Dual Language Program) from LAUSD-LA. This program is grounded of related to bilingual studies and has advanced since 1992. The history of contents based has more to do with social, economical, political, and academic factors. Second, The CALP is reviewed in this study. BICS means Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills and basic communication English or spoken English. This ability of command a English named ‘play-ground English’ because it is acquired at play- ground. Generally, spoken English takes time form 6 month to 2 years as second language. Meanwhile CALP(named Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency) needed to ability of discuss about academic issue and takes time at least 5 years. In this reason, this study addressed English education must be conducted by content-based as communication in korea.
