한국의 자살률이 심화되는 추세가 지속되고 있다. 높은 자살률은 다중적 측면에서 해석이 가능하다. 개인적 원인으로 국한될 수도 있지만 그에 못지않게 사회적 측면에서도 분석해볼 여지가 충분하다. 자살은 개인은 물론이고 국가적으로 중대한 손실을 초래하는 불행한 사건이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 자살 현황은 해당 사회의 건강지표로 활용되기도 한다. 자살을 관리하지 못하는 사회의 건강성은 양호하다고 할 수없다는 것이다. 한국사회에서 자살문제에 대응하기 위해 그간 다양한 노력들이 시도되어 왔다. ``자살예방 및 생명존중문화 조성을 위한 법률``이 입법되었고 지방자치단체와 민간기구들의 대응 체계와 수준도 향상되었다. 자살예방정책은 일반적으로 자살예방, 자살에 대한 개입, 사후개입으로 구분될 수 있다. 이 중 사후개입이란 자살을 시도하였으나 실패한 자들을 대상으로 실시하는 조치들을 의미하며, 가족, 친구, 동료들의 원조활동과 지역사회에서 자살의 위험요인 감소조치 등을 포괄하는 것이다. 이 연구에서는 한국경찰의 효율적인 자살예방활동을 모색하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 미국 뉴햄프셔(New Hampshire)주에서 시행하고 있는 경찰의 사후개입지침을 검토하였고 한국경찰의 관련 활동의 효율성 증진을 위한 실천과제를 제안하였다.
The korea suicide rate was 33.5 per 100,000. It has been the top-rated cause of death. Suicide has been the most serious problem in korea. Suicide survivor is one of the family and friends of someone who has died by suicide. Suicide survivor after the loss of a significant loved one can be excruciatingly painful, devastating and traumatic. It is well documented that having known or been close to someone who takes their own life statistically increases the likelihood that an individual may also attempt suicide in future. Therefore, suicide prevention activities is needed for suicide survivors. suicide prevention activities has prevention, intervention, postvention. A postvention is an intervention conducted after a suicide, largely taking the form of support of the bereaved(family, friends). The aim is to reduce the possibility of suicide contagion. The New Hampshire government has provided postvention protocols for the police. These protocols are offered as a guide to responding to these types of situations: a) Responding to the scene of a suicide of unattended death b) Notification of next of kin c) Public disclosure of cause and manner of death d) Notification of other community members/organizations e) Responding to the community the days following the suicide. The suggestion from the implication of new hampshire postvention are as follows: First of all, selection and use of specialized police officers to training for notifying next of kin in the event of a suicide. Secondly, provide guidelines that may occur over the event of a suicide. Thirdly, establish contacts with relevant organizations.
