본 연구는 동남권 신공항을 두고 신문사들의 뉴스 프레임과 뉴스 프레임에 영향을 미친 신문사 내외부적 요인들을 분석하였다. 매일신문, 부산일보, 조선일보의 보도 행태를 분석했다. 신문 기사의 양적 분석과 기자들을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 통한 질적 분석을 하였다. 신문사들 간 뉴스프레임의 양상에 대한 내용 분석 결과, 지방지들의 뉴스 프레임은 비슷하게 나타났다. 매일신문과 부산일보는 신공항 건설의 당위성을 외치면서 뉴스 프레임도 비슷한 비율로 나타났다. 지방지들 간 시기별 뉴스 프레임의 공통점과 차이점을 비교한 결과, 시기별 프레임에 있어서도 공통적인 현상이 나타났다. 중앙지의 시기별 뉴스 프레임의 구성을 분석한 결과, 조선일보도 시기별로 지방지들과 마찬가지 경향이었지만, 본면에는 동남권 신공항 건설에 대해 비판적인 입장을 제기하는 등 지방면과는 다른 논조를 보이기도 했다. 지방지에 영향력을 미친 내부 요인에 대해서 대부분의 기자들이 조직 내부에서 기사 주문이 있었다고 밝혔다. 외부 요인으로 지자체와 시민 단체들이 기사 정보를 제공하고 토론회와 공청회 등을 펼치며 보도 협조를 요청한 것으로 드러났다. 기자들은 외부 기관의 보도 협조 요청을 받고 적극적으로 지면에 반영하였다. 내부 요인으로 중앙지들은 신문사 내부로터 어떤 지시를 받은 적이 없었던 것으로 나타났다. 외부 요인에 대해 중앙지 기자들의 반응은 다소 엇갈렸지만, 대부분 기자들은 지자체와 중앙정부 등 외부적 요인이 없었다고 밝혔다. 중앙지와 지방지의 프레임 유형 차이의 원인은 중앙지와 지방지의 관할 범위와 독자층에서 찾아볼 수 있었다. 중앙지는 전국의 독자층을 두고 있고 지방지는 특정지역의 독자를 우선적으로 의식할 수밖에 없는 한계를 안고 있었다.

This study aims to analyze the news frame of daily newspapers and factors which influenced on the news frame regarding construction of a new airport in the east southern part of Korean peninsula. It analyzed the news of the Maeil Shinmun, the Busan Ilbo, and the Chosun Ilbo. Quantitative analysis of newspapers was combined with qualitative depth interview of reporters. The results of content analysis showed that news` frames of the local newspapers were similar. The news frame of the Maeil Shinmun and the Busan Ilbo were alike in insisting the necessity of constructing a new airport. As a result of comparing similarity and difference of news frames according to each time period between two local newspapers, a similar result was found in framing according to time periods. The news frame of the Chosun Ilbo was similar with local`s one according to time periods, however, differ ences in main pages appeared, for example, showing critical tone on the construction of the new airport, which was different from local pages` tone. Regarding internal factors of local newspapers, most of the reporters said there were requests inside their companies. As external factors, there were requests of reporting from local autonomous entities, civil society organizations by providing press releases, by holding forums and public hearings, etc. Reporters reflected these requests in reporting after receiving the requests from external bodies. There wasn`t any order from inside the Chosun Ilbo. Despite of a few disagreement, most of the Chosun Ilbo`s reporters said they never got any orders from local and central governments. The cause of frame`s difference between the central and the local newspapers were markets. The central newspaper has nationwide reader`s market, while the local newspapers were limited to local market, therefore, the local newspapers had to be sensitive to their local readers.
