이 글은 ‘동래읍성 역사축제’의 기본적인 주요 행사들이 갖는 역사적 의의와 그에 대한 인식의 문제, 그리고 이야기 생산과 축제 만들기에 그것이 어떻게 작용하고, 또 하나의 이야기 체계로서 동래성 전투가 어떤 담론적인 가능성과 한계들을 가지는가를 따져본다. 여기서 기본적으로 축제가 갖는 문화정치적 성격을 바탕으로 동시대적으로 걸맞는 로컬리티의 정치를 위해서는 어떤 변화가 요구되는지를 궁리해볼 것이다. 이를 위해 우리는 로컬리티-기반의 이해라는 시각에서 접근을 시도한다. 국가적으로 표준화된 축제의 내용이나 형식을 잣대로 하는 시각이 아니라, 로컬 거주민들의 생활문화에 바탕을 두는 문화적·정치적 자산으로서 축제를 보고, 그 토대 위에서 역사를 계승하더라도 틀에 얽매이지 않는 열린 인식과 태도를 통해 보완점을 모색해본다.

This paper discusses the historical meaning incorporated in the basic main events of “Historical Festival of Dongnae Castle,” how memorizing and knowing the meaning could influence the story production and festival making. And it tries to discern the discursive possibilities and limitations that the battle of Dongnae Castle in 1592 a story-telling has. The discussion is basically on a characteristic of cultural politics and probes how the story of the festival changes for politics of locality connecting contemporaneity. For probing the how, we approach the festival on a perspective of locality-based understanding. This perspective is not on the form and content of the nationally standardized festival but on the understanding the festival as cultural and political property based on the lives of the local people. On the understanding, we grope for complements come from an open knowledge and attitude in the making of the historical festival without a fixed frame.
