한국 선도(仙道)의 특징에는 전통적으로 공유되어 오던 일련의 가치들이 확인된다. 인간존중의 정신, 재세이화의 이념, 포함삼교의 문화가 그것이다. 이러한 가치들은 특정 시기에 국한된 사고유형이 아니며, 통시적으로 우리 문화 속에서 일관되게 반복 재현되어 왔다. 한국 근대에 출현한 신종교 또한 이러한 사상적 흐름을 공유하고 있다. 이는 한국 고유의 선도가 역사의 이면을 관류(貫流)하여 신종교에 수용되었음을 시사한다. 최수운의 ``시천주(侍天主)``, 강증산의 ``천지공사(天地公事)``, 소태산의 ``일원상(一圓相)의 진리(眞理)``는 모두 자신의 종교체험을 승화시켜 구현한 독창적인 사상체계이다. 하지만, 한국 선도의 사상사적 흐름 위에서 신종교를 살펴보면 양자 간의 긴밀한 개연성이 발견된다. 아울러 그러한 사유의 원형은 한민족의 문화원형이 투사되어 있는 단군신화로까지 소급된다. 따라서 한국 선도는 외래사조의 유입 이후에 그 명맥이 단절되거나 와해되지 않은 채 불교, 유교 등의 이론적 틀 내에서 그 원형을 면면히 유지하였다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 흐름은 조선조후기 기층민중 속에 내재하고 있던 개벽(開闢)의 열망과 조응하면서 새로운 종교 운동으로 역사의 전면에 등장한 것이다. 오늘날의 한국 사회는 전통문화의 외면 속에서 외래문화의 대량유입을 경험하고 있다. 이는 전통문화의 상대적 소외라는 결과를 초래하였다. 한국 선도의 올바른 이해는 문화 주체성을 회복하고 전통문화를 계승 발전해 나가는 데 기여하리라 생각한다. 아울러 한국 신종교를 바라보는 시각도 고유문화의 계승이라는 점에서 하나의 재평가가 이루어져야 하리라 본다.
A series of values can be found in the doctrine system of Korean Sundo(仙道). They are ``the mind of respecting humans``, ``the idea of ruling the world with reason``, and ``the culture of integrated three religions``. These values are not limited to the late of Chosun dynasty. They have been consistently and diachronically repeated through our culture. Korean new religions`` sharing this trend of thought implies that Sundo, the unique form of original Korea`s culture, is accommodated into new religions through their flowing into the other side of history. ``Serving God with in me(侍天主)`` by Choi Suun, ``Reordering of the Universe(天地公事)`` by Kang Jeungsan and ``Truth of Il Won Sang(一圓相)`` by Sotaesan are the unique thoughts that were realized through sublimating their own religious experiences. However, when looking into Korean new religions in the aspect of the trend of the history of thought regarding Korean Sundo, a close probability can be detected between the two. In addition, the original forms of such thoughts are related back to Dangun mythology projected with the original form of the culture of Korean people. Thus, Korea`s Sundo has survived and not disrupted since the introduction of foreign thoughts, and then they have barely kept their original forms in the theoretical framework of Buddhism and Confucianism. This life force have accorded with the aspiration of the Great Opening(開闢) of inherent in the people in the late Chosun dynasty and rose to the forefront of history as a new religious movement. Korea`s society experiences a mass influx of foreign cultures, while disregarding our traditional cultures. This has brought the relative isolation of traditional cultures and eventually brought about the rapid erosion of our traditional cultures. Correct understanding of Korea`s Taoism will contribute to the recovery of our cultural identity, developing our cultural identity and succeeding to that.
