IPTV는 디지털 컨버전스 매체로서 다양한 채널을 갖고 있기 때문에 사용자 개개인에게 적합한 개별화된 콘텐츠를 제공하고, 쌍방향 서비스, 고화질의 동영상 콘텐츠를 제공하고, 대다수 사용자에게 친숙한 텔레비전과 리모컨 조작을 통해 쉽게 활용할 수 있다는 특징을 갖고 있기 때문에 특수교육 분야에서 IPTV의 활용을 신중하게 검토할 필요가 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 특수교육 분야에 IPTV 도입과 활용에 대한 특수교사, 행정가, 학부모의 인식 및 요구를 조사하는 것이었다. 이를 위해 1,287명의 특수학교(급)와 특수교육지원센터의 교사와 관리자(교장, 교감, 장학사), 특수교육대상학생의 학부모를 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였다. 그 결과 약 97%의 응답자들이 특수교육대상학생 교육 목적으로 IPTV를 활용할 의향이 있다고 답하였다. 이들은 IPTV가 정규수업에서보다 병원학교, 재택수업, 순회교육, 재량활동, 방과 후 수업 등에서 더 필요할 것이라고 응답하였다. 연구 참여자들은 일관성 있게 IPTV 학습 내용은 학생의 교육 환경에서 개별 학습수준별, 학생 주도적인 형식으로 제공되어야 하고, 장애유형에 따른 접근 방법들이 필요하다고 하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 결과들을 일반교육에서의 IPTV 인식과 요구에 대한 선행연구 결과와 비교하며 유사점과 차이점에 대해 논의하였고, IPTV의 특징이 장애아동에게 유리한 매체이기 때문에 특수교육에서 충분히 연계하여 활용할 필요가 있음을 시사하였다.
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is one of the digital convergence media, and a new medium to provide users with individualized and customized contents for having diverse channels, interactive service and high quality video contents by television and remote control familiar and easy to users. In this respect, IPTV needs to be considered favorably used in the special education area. The purpose of the study is to investigate the awareness of IPTV and demands for introducing and utilizing IPTV in special education. An online survey was conducted nationwide and participants were 1,287 district officers, administrators (principals and vice principals), teachers and the parents of students with disabilities. About 97% of the participants said that they would use or try to use IPTV for teaching students with special education needs. The respondents answered that IPTV would be needed in hospital schools, home schools, itinerant education, optional classes and afterschool classes than in regular classes. They repeatedly said that the educational content from IPTV should be provided by individual learning levels and with self-directed format in those educational settings. Accessibility of using IPTV also should be met with disability types. Aspects of the findings that were similar to and different from general education reported in a previous study were discussed at the end. The advantages of IPTV can appeal to special education area considering the characteristics of the students with special needs.
