본 연구에서 저자는 인간-기기와의 인터랙션을 활용한 예술 창작 범주로서 인터랙티브 인스톨레이션에 대한 이해를 도모하기 위하여 작품 내부에서 행해지는 인터랙션 기제의 분석과 유형화를 시도하였다. 연구 자료는 vimeo 사이트로부터 interactive installation이라는 키워드로 검색된 8,297개의 비디오와 이를 바탕으로 각 비디오가 제공하는 연관 링크를 따라 탐색하여 추가된 비디오를 대상으로 하여, 연구 목적에 부합하지 않는 것을 버리고, 작동 기제의 관점에서 유사하거나 동일한 것은 대표 사례만 남기고 버리는 방식으로 축소 정리하여 503개의 대표 사례를 표집하였고, 이를 가지고 근거이론방법론을 적용, 분석하였다. 일차적으로 표본을 대상으로 개방 코딩을 실행하여 984개의 기술문으로 정리하였으며, 다시 이를 바탕으로 축코딩을 실행, 작동 단위를 나타내는 19개의 핵심 단어를 도출하였다. 이렇게 행한 축코딩의 결과를 가지고 선택 코딩을 행하여 16개의 인터랙션 작동 기제의 유형으로 정리하였다. 도출된 작동 기제의 유형들 안의 작동 단위의 위치와 패턴을 추적하여 통합 구조 모형을 구축하였는바, 구축된 통합 구조 모형은 상기 도출된 16개의 인터랙션 작동 기제의 유형을 모두 포함하며 논리적으로도 오류없이 구성된 것을 확인하였다. 최종적으로 이렇게 구축된 통합 모형을 근간으로 논리적 관점에서 작동 기제의 유형을 재구성한바, 결과로 총 22개의 작동 기제 유형을 도출, 정리할 수 있었다.
The author analyzed interactive installation art works to find and classify operating pattern of interaction inside of the art work for systematic understanding of various trials and approaches being done in this field today. 8,297 samples which were collected by searching from vimeo site using keyword ``interactive installation`` and more samples which were also collected randomly following connected links were added for analysis. Reviewing one by one, researcher removed irrelevant samples for the research purpose and similar or identical samples in operating pattern leaving typical ones. With 503 samples which have survived removal process, author performed further analysis adopting ``grounded theory methodology`` and extracted ``descriptive sentences`` of 984 through the process of open coding. Then applying axial coding, the author extracted 19 core words which represent operating units. Then again the author deducted operating patterns of 16 by analyzing samples using these core words i.e. operating units conducting selective coding. Comparing the position and relative patterns of operating units in operating patterns, the author constructed compounded model which is inclusive all the deducted operating patterns as the parts of it. Then re-deduction of all the possible operating patterns based on the constructed compounded model and finally 22 operating patterns were found and organized.
