본 연구는 콜버그의 인지 결정론적 입장을 지양하고, 인지와 정서와 행동을 통합적으로 보고자 했던 레스트의 4 구성요소 모델 중 제4 요소에 근거하여 도덕적 행동 내지 실행에 관여하는 도덕적 품성화 구성개념을 구축하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 레스트의 4 구성요소 모델에 대한 명확한 이해를 하고자 했으며, 다음으로 레스트가 언급한 제4 요소의 개념정의와 도덕적 품성화 관련 이론들(아리스토텔레스의 덕 이론, 반두라의 자아효능감, 미셸의 만족감의 유예, 나바에즈와 랩슬리의 전문성 모델, 용기와 절제에 관한 긍정심리학의 연구)을 종합적으로 검토하여 도덕적 품성화의 구성개념을 확정하였다. 도덕적 품성화의 구성개념으로 대항목에는 인내, 자아강도, 수행기술이 확정되었으며, 인내의 소항목으로 인지적 전략과 자기 조절, 자아강도의 소항목으로 용기와 자아효능감, 수행기술의 소항목으로 사회적 기술과 의사소통능력이 선정되었다. 본 연구를 통해 확정된 도덕적 품성화 능력의 구성개념은 청소년 도덕적 품성화 정도를 평가할 수 있는 검사도구 개발의 이론적 근거가 될 수 있다. 아울러 본 연구는 향후 한국 청소년의 도덕성(도덕적 품성화 분야)을 진단하며, 도덕적 품성화 능력 제고를 위한 교육적·정책적 처방에 기여할 것으로 전망한다.

This article aims to develop into the exploration of the construct of moral character by the fourth component related with moral action or implementation in the four components model of J. Rest who has sublated the cognitive determinism of Kohlberg and emphasized the interplay between cognition, emotion and action. The outline of this study runs as follows. First, we scrutinized the four components model of J. Rest. And then in order to establish the construct of moral character, we examined not only the concept of the fourth component, that is, moral character or implementation but also the related theories: Aristotle`s theory of virtue, the concept of self-efficacy(Bandura), the concept of delayed gratification(Mischel), the model of moral expertise(Narvaez & Lapsley), the study of positive psychology concerning courage and temperance. The construct of moral character consists of persistence(cognitive strategy, self-regulation), ego strength(courage, self-efficacy), and implementation skills(social skills, communication skills). Through establishing the construct of moral character, this study will contribute to developing moral character test for youth which has not yet been invented at home and abroad. Moreover, this study will be useful to diagnosing the morality(moral character) of Korean adolescents and paving the way to the institutional & educational prescription with a view to raising the competence of moral character.
