이 글에서는 대학 글쓰기 교재의 새로운 경향을 살폈다. 최근 개정된 교재 가운데 구성 원리 면에서 뚜렷한 특징이 있는 것을 골라 분석하고, 그 의미와 시사점을 정리하였다. 경희대 교재의 경우, 대학 글쓰기가 생애 최초의 제대로 된 글쓰기 교육이라는 점에 주목하여, 쓰기 주체들의 자기서사(self-narrative), 저자성(authorship)을 강조하는 ``경험적·치유적 글쓰기``를 표방하였다. 이는 비정상적인 중등 작문교육의 현실을 감안하고, 대학 글쓰기가 주체의 삶에 착근하지 못하는 현실을 극복하려는 것으로, 그간 과정중심, 인지주의에 기반을 두었던 대학 글쓰기 교육을 넘어서려는 문제의식의 결과다. 그러나 표현주의, 혹은 실천 인문학의 토대가 구체적인 방법론으로 녹아드는 과정에서 제기되는 낭만성을 극복할 필요가 있다. 숙명여대 교재의 경우, 대학 글쓰기를 학술적 담화 공동체에 필요한 도구과목으로 인식하고, 텍스트로서의 글을 핵심 기능(요약-분석-비평)별로 익힘으로써 지적 전통과의 소통능력을 신장시키는 데 목표를 두고 있다. 이는 다양한 문종을 섭렵하던 초창기 교재의 비효율성을 극복한 것이면서도 동시에 대학 글쓰기의 본질을 ``규범적·논증적 글쓰기``로 초점화한 결과다. 그러나 여전히 읽기 위주의 성격이 강하다는 점에서 구체적인 쓰기 전략과 만나는 지점을 보완할 필요가 있으며, 텍스트의 완결성을 전제로 진행된 규범적 읽기가 오늘날의 글쓰기환경에 유연하게 접목될 수 있는 방안이 요청된다. 두 교재는 대학 글쓰기 교재의 새로운 분기를 드러내고 있을 뿐만 아니라 제2기의 내용과 신경향이 구체화되는 양상을 보여준다. 따라서 두 교재의 고유한 장점과 특징은 대학 글쓰기 교육의 장에서 주목할 필요가 있다. 아울러 두 교재의 효과를 극대화할 수 있는 대학 글쓰기의 교육 환경, 즉 대학 신입생에 대한 분석, 심화·연계 과목의 개발 및 연구 등이 모색되어야 할 것이다.
This paper presents an investigation into new trends in college writing textbooks by selecting the ones with distinctive characteristics in terms of organization principle among the recently revised college writing textbooks, intensively analyzing them, and sorting out their meanings and implications. The college writing textbooks of Kyunghee University advocated "experiential and healing writing" with an emphasis on the self-narrative and authorship of the subjects of writing, paying attention to the idea that college writing is the first full-scale writing education in the lives of students. They tried to take into account the reality of abnormal secondary writing education and overcome the reality in which college writing fails to approach the life of the subject, being the results of the problematic consciousness to graduate from the old college writing education based on focus on process and cognitivism. However, they need to overcome romanticism raised in the process of expressivism or practical humanities melting into them as concrete methodologies. The college writing textbooks of Sookmyung Women`s University were designed to help the students regard college writing as an instrumental course for the academic discourse community and increase their communication skills with intellectual heritage by studying writing as text according to the core functions(summary-analysis-criticism). They are the results of the efforts to overcome the inefficiency of their early versions, which covered a variety of literary genres, and define the nature of college writing as "normative and expository writing." However, they need to supplement the contact points between specific writing strategies in that they are still strongly distinguished by reading-centric tendency. They also need to find ways to flexibly integrate normative reading, which is on the premise of completeness of text, into today`s writing environments. Both of them not only reveal new ramifications in college writing textbooks, but also show the specification patterns of the content and new trends of the second period, which raises a need to pay attention to their unique advantages and characteristics in the field of college writing education. In addition, there is a need to search for educational environments for college writing to maximize their effects such as analysis of freshmen, research and development of advanced courses, and connections with the adjacent subjects.
