Adverse effect of heavy metals on human health has been awarded and consequently, conducting ecological risk assessment (ERA) for heavy metals is necessary. In this study, cadmium (Cd) was evaluated for assessing ecological toxicity with germination test and its bioaccumulation into crops. Three different crops, carrot (Daucus carota), chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris var. chinensis) and green onion (Allium cepa) were used for germination test and bioaccumulation amount of Cd in each crop. Result showed that concentration of IC50 (Inhibited concentration) was ordered as carrot (60 mg-Cd/L) > chinese cabbage (45 mg-Cd/L) > green onion(25 mg-Cd/L). Based on spiked Cd concentration and bioaccumulated Cd concentration in each crop, biological transfer factor (BTF) was calculated. BTF value for carrot, green onion, and chinese cabbage was 5.2-12.3, 1.2-3.8 and 14.8-32.1 respectively. This result might indicate that green onion is sensitive to Cd toxicity making resistant to Cd accumulation while less resistance was observed for Cd in chinese cabbage.
