최근 중동지역은 정치적 불안정으로 인하여 관광산업이 위축되어 있는 상황이다. 이는 오랜 기간동안 지속되어왔던 중동지역의 민족간의 종교갈등 및 리비아, 시리아, 이집트 등의 국가들에서의 장기간 독재정치에 대한 시민들의 민주화 요구 둥에 대한 시위가 장 기간 펼쳐지고 있다. 그러나 오래전부터 중동지역은 막대한 원유자원을 기반으로 한 천연자원이 풍부하여 이를 통한 경제성장을 지속해왔었다. 특히 최근의 국제유가 급등으로 인하여 많은 중동부 호들의 해외여행에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 또한 이들의 해외여행 체류일수는 평균적으로 11일 정도로 여타 국가들의 관광객들의 체류일수보다 2배 야상 오래 체류하는 것으로 나타났다， 그리고 최근 중동 관광객들은 해외 의료관광에 대한 수요가 중가하고 있는 추세로 있어 우리나라의 선진 의료기술을 활용한 관광사업을 활성화할 필요가 있다． 본 연구는 한국관광업의 대 중동지역 진출방향에 대한 새로운 방안을 강구해보고 이들 기업의 국제화 관점에서 재해석하고자 한다. 아울러 중동지역의 환경요인을 파악한 후 향 후 한국관광업의 현지진출에 대한 자료를 제공하고자 한다. 따라서 한국관광업의 대 중동지역의 안정적인 진출을 위해서는 첫째, 현재의 중동지역 의 정치적 불안정성에 대한 불안감을 갖고 접근하기 보다는 이들 지역의 막대한 오일머니를 유치하기 위한 장기적 관점에서 고려해야 한다. 둘째, 전 세계뿐만 아니라 중동지역 에 불고 있는 "한류문화" 에 대한 관심을 활용한 적극적인 마케팅 전략을 펼쳐야 한다. 셋째, 한국의 우수한 의료산업을 적극 활용할 수 있는 의료관광 상품과 한류문화 체험 듯의 복합적 상품의 개발을 통한 중동지역 관광객들의 유치에 적극적으로 활용해야 한다. 마지막으로 장기적인 관점에서 미래의 중동지역 정치적 안정화가 정착된 후 새로운 중동지역의 관광상품의 개발이 필요하다.
