This study used the root extracts of Lithospermum erythrorhizon as one of traditional natural botanic dye to determine dyeing level of decolored hair depending upon dyeing hours, dyeing temperature and mordant concentration. And this study also examined post-dyeing color endurance through shampooing. As a result, this study came to the following findings: In this experimental conditions, it is found that 3% mordant treatment followed by 10 minute hair dyeing at 40°C had best effects on hair dyeing level. After shampooing, it was found that the hairs dyed with the root extracts of L. erythrorhizon were decolored a little with higher brightness than before. Summing up, this study found that dyeing with the root extracts of L. erythrorhizon as a natural dye could be applied to human hair, and dyeing color endured even after shampooing, which demonstrate that natural dye is applicable to hair dyeing.
