It is impossible to read the Bible and miss the call to mission. The Scripture introduces not only those who received God`s calling and dedicated their whole lives to God`s mission, but also those who dedicated short periods of their lives for special, specific missions from God. Short-term missions are not a new phenomenon. For the last several decades, a study on the definition of short-term missions has produced diverse perspectives. Recently many shortterm missionaries agree that in order to define this term accurately, we need to adopt a synthetic perspective rather than a singular point of view. While short-term missions have received much criticism, it is an undeniable fact that short-term missions have provided tremendous benefits to the missionaries, the host organization, and the commissioning organization. Therefore, a thorough investigation and analysis of the cause of the criticism of short-term missions is necessary in order to improve and strengthen the effectiveness of short-term missions. In addition, there is a very strong and deep correlation between the success of a short-term mission and the health of the church. When the short-term mission experience is positive, church members set better priorities in their lives and develop a sense of responsibility for evangelism, both locally and globally. Therefore, short-term missions are necessary.
