본 연구는 외국인 며느리와 농촌 시어머니의 관계의 질을 매개로 농촌 시어머니의 문화적응 스트레스가 농촌시어머니의 정신건강(심리적 안녕감, 우울)에 미치는 영향을 알아보고, 관계의 질 개선을 통한 농촌 시어머니의 정신건강의 유지 및 증진을 도모하며, 외국인 며느리를 둔 농촌 시어머니를 위한 사회복지 실천의 기초자료로 활용하고자 하는 것에 연구의 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 경기 31개의 시·군 중 농촌과 도·농 복합지역, 전라북도 진안지역에 거주하며 외국인 며느리를 두고 있는 60세 이상의 시어머니였으며, 모두 101명을 대상으로 1:1면접에 의한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과, 외국인 며느리와 시어머니 관계의 질은 농촌 시어머니의 문화적응 스트레스와 농촌 시어머니의 정신건강 중 부정적 정서인 우울의 관계에서 완전 매개하여, 대처기제로서의 관계의 질의 역할을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 함의를 제시하였다.

The objective of this study is to know the effects of acculturation stress of rural mothers-in-law who have foreign daughters-in-law on their mental health. to find out the method to enhance the relationships between mothers-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law to improve the rural mothers-in-law`s mental health, and to utilize the results of the study to take action for the social welfare of mothers-in-law who have foreign daughters-in-law. The subject of this study is the mothers-in-law who are more than 60 years old and have foreign daughters-in-law in rural community of Gyoung gi-do, Jinan-gun of Jeonbuk. The survey performed is a one-on-one interview with 101 mothers-in-law. The result of this study is as follows. This study reveals strong mediation effect of the quality of relationship depending on stress acculturation for depression. From this study, we can assert the role of quality of relationship as a substitutional mechanism between acculturation stress and mental health. This contains an undertone of warning.
