Many people have been inspired by novels and Madame Bovary of Gustave Flaubert which is one of the representative literary work in 19th century of France. Firstly, this study investigates the difference and the characteristic between the made by Vincente Minelli in America and by Claude Chabrol in France. The analyse is based on the general definition of the adaptation faithful or liberal (by Mitry). Secondly, the study researches what kind of transformation we can find in each by comparing two adapted films with the original text, Madame Bovary. This process shows us why each adaptation by Chabrol and Minellei has differences in transforming the structure of the story and the details in the 2 films. Lastly, by looking at the effect and the implication of the betray on the original text in adapted , we think of the meaning of the adaption of Madame Bovary and the way how we should understand and accept these adapted movies. Adaptation proves that movies rely upon a someone`s point of view. In this point of view, it consents that we interpret the original text and give the new implication to it, by considering the period and the intention of the adapter. Thus, it is required that we should reconsider the meaning of the adaptation as a way of ``Re-writing`` of original work. Then we`d be able to find the esthetic value and the signification of the adaptation, which the director or adapter tried to realize in adapted work.
