Averaging of multiple images with different exposures has been one of the practical and easy ways to get WDR image. Each image taken under the different exposure of time can represent its own dynamic range corresponding to the exposure. However, simple averaging of multiple image often leads us to get images of poor contrast and color saturation. This is because the saturated intensity of each image affects the resulting image. This paper proposes an image combining and color enhancement technique for WDR image. The intensity combining is mainly based on the well known averaging scheme, however, the resultant image is processed with histogram stretching for better contrast enhancement. More faithful color fidelity is achieved by accounting the strength of color information of each scene. Further processing, such as gamma correction and edge emphasis, is added to enhance the output image. The proposed algorithm is considered to be adequate for ISP core H/W design for it is real time based and not iterative.
